On-Time Performance & Airport Ratings

Overall, Alabama’s airports maintain solid punctuality. For instance, only about 6–7% of Birmingham flights are delayed, placing it near mid-range among US small-hub airports. Smaller airports (HSV, MGM, DHN, MSL) typically report minimal delays due to fewer total flights; weather and connecting-hub issues remain the primary causes of late operations.

Cancellation rates are generally low (~1–2%), with Huntsville seeing <2% canceled in 2023. On user satisfaction, Huntsville (HSV) was voted #2 among US “Best Small Airports,” praised for an updated terminal and shorter wait times. Birmingham (BHM) is a modern “small hub” after its 2013 terminal renovation, receiving positive feedback for cleanliness and improved restaurants and shops.
